Charles W. Seedorff founded Seedorff Masonry in 1957. He began with
a small crew of four people that eventually developed into a company employing a current
average of 375 people. Charles served as President of the company from 1957 through 1994,
at which point he assumed his current role as CEO and Chairman of the Board. His primary
focus in day-to-day operations includes working in concert with our regional field
superintendents in the development and placement of manpower.
His ability to recognize, develop and surround himself with talented
individuals has been unprecedented. Combined with an honest approach and strong work
ethic, it has created a recipe for success. Consistent growth of the firm, although not a
formal strategic initiative, has occurred due to the accumulation of talent within the
ranks at SMI.
The impact he has made on the masonry industry has extended well
beyond the scope of SMI. He has been involved in a variety of industry associations which
have included the Master Builders of Iowa as an Associate Council Chairman, member of
their Board of Directors and various other committees; Iowa State Chairman of the Mason
Contractors Association of America as well as a committee member; the Bricklayers
Apprenticeship Training Program; and he was instrumental in the establishment of the
Masonry Institute of Iowa.
In 1994, the Master Builders of Iowa exemplified the respect he has
earned in the construction industry with the presentation of The Build Iowa Award. The
recipient of this award is selected from a group of peers, and recognized as the
individual who best demonstrates the tenets of skill, integrity and responsibility within
the industry. Charles W. Seedorff was the fifth recipient of this prestigious award, and
the first ever subcontractor to be honored. Also in 1994, he was the presented with the
Melvin Jones Citizenship Award presented by the Lions Club for his numerous contributions
to the community.
The belief that created Seedorff Masonry, Inc. in 1957 remains the
recipe for success today; the consistent delivery of an honest, quality job. |
