Bob Marsh received his
Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Engineering from Iowa State
University in 1978. Since that time, he has worked as a general
contractor, specialty contractor and developer. His experience
includes earthwork, underground utilities, general contracting, and
retail development. Bob’s duties have ranged from field engineer to
President.
Since joining SMI in
2006, Bob has brought a new perspective to operations. His emphasis on
preplanning, scheduling, and project control systems have helped
reinforce an attitude of accountability throughout the organization.
He is never convinced that “that’s the way we have always done
it” is the right answer. Bob constantly seeks to help others improve
the processes required to meet the corporate goals of safety, quality,
and employee growth.
This desire to improve extends past the walls of SMI.
Bob has been involved in industry and community efforts for many
years. He has held the offices of Chairman and Vice Chair of the
Master Builders of Iowa, as well as serving on it’s Board of
Directors and numerous committees. He was an initial board member of
the Iowa Construction Careers Institute, was appointed by the Governor
to the Regional Workforce Investment Board, and served on several
statewide committees for youth training, employee development, and
project delivery systems.
