Safety
At Seedorff Masonry, we take great pride in the premier group of people who make up our
team. From our Bricklayers & Laborers in the field to our Shop, Yard and Office Staff
who support their efforts, our focus is on performing each and every job safely.
Our Philosophy
Safety is an investment. If there is a way to improve the quality of resources available
to our team, the manner in which the work is performed or the knowledge of the people
involved, well find it. And if we cant find it, well create it. Some of
the most innovative solutions in jobsite safety have come directly from our crews in the
field to our shop, manufactured by members of our team who are committed to creating a
safer workplace.
Our Approach
Education and awareness. The first step in avoiding an unsafe situation is the ability to
identify it as such. Our risk management team is a valuable resource relative to training
and education for our entire staff.
Our safety staff consists of a team of three individuals; our Risk
Manager, one Field Safety Trainer based in Strawberry Point and another Field Safety
Trainer based in our Omaha office. Together, this group coordinates our Loss Prevention
effort, provides new employee orientation and training, conducts OSHA 10 hour courses and
teaches scaffold building and operator training classes. In addition to these in-house
services, our staff works in cooperation with a variety of outside consultants to study
manual material handling activities, perform jobsite hazard analysis and investigate
issues relative to ergonomics.
The Gary Moats Award
The most prestigious award available to any Seedorff employee is the Gary Moats Award.
Each year at our Annual Meeting, we recognize one individual
for outstanding contributions through their attitude, actions and day-to-day commitment to
safety with the presentation of this award. The honor of joining this select group of
recipients is accentuated by the fact that nominations and references come from the
recipients peers.
Our Goal
We reached One Million Consecutive
Safe Hours on December 14, 2007. An incredible
milestone. We're very proud of our team in the field and our
support staff that works behind the scenes to protect our team.
Our success, and the pursuit of that success, has changed us.
Safety is an integral part of our operation and our processes.
And we are better for it.
So
what's next? We love a challenge...and
we've decided that the next step is only a million hours away. As
we reach a variety of milestones on our way to Two
Million Safe Hours, we'll
continue to celebrate as a team and reward individual effort with
a variety of incentives.
The culmination of a number of strategic
initiatives in safety education and awareness creates alignment. We’re
committed to preventing injuries…..period. Safe behavior is the common
thread that protects our health, our livelihood and most importantly,
our families.
