Position Overview: We are looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Estimator to join our growing construction team in our Grimes, IA office. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in estimating costs for construction projects, including labor, material, and overhead. The Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive bids, evaluating supplier proposals, and ensuring that the scope of work is effectively communicated to our team in the field for execution. This position is crucial to our company’s backlog of work, delivery of projects on time and within budget, and future growth. Role and Responsibilities: Cost Estimation: Prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates for construction projects, including materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor services. Bid Preparation: Create and submit competitive bids for new projects, ensuring alignment with project scope and specifications. Review Project Plans: Analyze blueprints, project specifications, and other technical documents to determine project requirements and develop cost-effective solutions. Subcontractor & Supplier Coordination: Obtain and review quotes from subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring that estimates are competitive and accurate. Project Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, architects, engineers, and other stakeholders to understand project goals and ensure estimates align with project objectives. Budget Monitoring: Assist project teams in monitoring project costs throughout construction, identifying potential budgetary issues and recommending solutions. Cost Analysis: Perform cost analysis and benchmarking based on historical data and market trends to ensure estimates reflect current market conditions. Bid and Proposal Preparation: Complete proposal documents and submit bids for new projects. Risk Management: Identify potential risks to project cost and timelines and propose mitigation strategies to ensure project success. Post-Construction Evaluation: Review project final costs and compare them with original estimates to evaluate accuracy and improve future estimating practices. |
Qualifications:
Experience: 3+ years of estimating or quantity survey experience in the construction industry.
Knowledge: In-depth understanding of construction processes, materials, costs, and scheduling.
Skills: Proficiency with construction estimating software (e.g., Procore, Destini, or equivalent), Microsoft Office Suite, and other relevant tools.
Attention to Detail: Strong analytical skills and attention to detail to ensure accurate estimates and cost management.
Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively present estimates and collaborate with team members and clients.
Qualifications: A degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or equivalent field experience preferred.
